Here is a quick list of issues to think about when creating a parenting plan (custody agreement) in Connecticut.
 
Parenting Plan Checklist: Legal Custody
  • Medical Decisions: Emergency and routine decision-making, notification, legal consent.
  • Education: School districts, lessons, tutoring, special needs, college.
  • Religion: Religious education, observance, traditions.
  • Access to Information and People: Educational and medical records, passports and birth certificates, doctors, etc.
  • Discipline: Day-to-day discipline, rules for behavior now and in the future.
  • Renegotiation: Periodic review of plan, creating a living document, relocation.
  • Conflict Resolution: Settling future disputes.
  • Romantic Relationships: Introducing or exposing child(ren) to new romantic partners.
  • Parental Behavior: No disparaging comments, children as messenger. Discussion about divorce or other parent in front of child(ren).
  • Penalties: Consequence for non-compliance.
 
Parenting Plan Checklist: Physical Custody
  • Calendar: Children’s living arrangement for a typical week or month.
  • Transitions: The who/when/where of pick-ups.
  • Holidays: Secular and religious holidays including all time off from school.
  • Vacations: Arranging for international travel passports.
  • Parental Relocation: Restrictions and notice before moving.
  • Extended Family & Friends: Access to the children.
  • Periodic Changes: Planning for known developmental changes in child(ren) and unplanned changes in child(ren)’s life.
  • Childcare: Including right of first refusal.
  • Communication: Phone calls, emails, Our Family Wizard software between visits.

  • Assets on financial affidavits.
  • Execution of deed and other documents.
  • Division of current debts.
  • After-found assets and debts.
